Chartres Cathedral, also called Notre-Dame d’Chartres- Gothic Chartres located in the town of Chartres, northwestern France. The history of this majestic and mysterious building stretches from the time of the Roman Empire, ranked as one of the three chief examples of Gothic French architecture. However a "High Gothic Style" the facade it is one of most famous cathedrals in France. Architects began constructing the first Gothic cathedral at Chartres after its Romanesque predecessor was destroyed by fire in 1020, completed in 1220.
